THE NEXT BIG THING

So I was invited to join THE NEXT BIG THING. It is a chain of book and author recommendations. One author tags five others, who then each tag five others. The idea is that we all help people out there learn about all the good stuff that’s just out or coming soon. Rebecca McKeown tagged me on her blog and now it’s my turn.

1. What is the working title of your next book?
     Shadows of the Moon

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?
It all (this book and its predecessor, "I Miss Your Purple Hair") stems from some actual visions and dreams I have had, as well as a series of synchronicities I've experienced. It reflects my personal predictions for the future of humanity. I believe we are heading into a pivotal time and there will be great loss prior to a rebirth.

3. What genre does your book fall under?
     Fantasy/Thriller

4. What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
Sage would be best portrayed by a young actor who projects soul and humility. I don't really have anyone in mind, as an unknown would be the smartest option. Same for Raven. The two protagonists are so young! I could see Joaquin Phoenix or Viggo Mortensen as Kroh. Tal should be a very strong-willed, athletic actress. Myrana could be played by someone like Cate Blanchett.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Is it truly too late to stave off the extinction of the human race, or is there still some hope for salvation?

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
     Self published.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
I created the first draft during 2012 NaNoWriMo and wrote over 50,000 words in 21 days. There are still a few holes to fill and I held off writing the final chapter, which I will complete by mid-December.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
The Hunger Games or The Road, but not for writing style.

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
For a period of three years I experienced clear "visions" during waking moments (for lack of a perfect term). These bizarre moments helped guide me and fill in aspects of the plot. I also have had dreams that predicted actual events, like the Japan earthquake and tsunami, the Chile quake, etc. I believe in the notion of "non-Messiahs", (some would call them "Lightworkers" or Archangels) and foresee them guiding the human race toward some resolutions when the critical time arrives.

10. What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?
The characters are colorful and compelling. It is a story with many strong female characters, just like the previous book. I think it is a good adventure, regardless of whether or not you can buy into the possibility that my "visions" have any merit. It should make you contemplate potential scenarios for our short and long-term future.
